About Ben
Ben Richter, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist and literacy specialist who provides virtual services to school-age children He provides individualized, evidence-based support for students in the areas of reading, writing, spelling, oral language, and executive-function skills.
Ben’s instruction reflects the interconnected nature of language and literacy, drawing on areas including phonology, orthography, syntax, semantics, vocabulary, and morphology.
At the same time, he strives to “make learning abnormally easy” for the learner, a principle drawn from Kenn Apel’s thinking about cognitive load and the zone of proximal development. This means identifying the most important concepts in a lesson and structuring instruction so students can focus their attention on those priorities, while scaffolding or reducing sources of friction that are not essential to the learning goal.
Ben also develops instructional games and other resources through SLP Literacy Lab.
He is also passionate about exploring thoughtful uses of AI and other emerging technologies to support adults with speech, language, and executive-function challenges associated with developmental conditions such as ADHD, acquired brain injury, or stroke.
